“You know you are truly alive when you’re living among lions.”
― Karen Blixen,
Mansimvula is a private nature reserve that shares a border with the Kruger National Park. My dad’s family have been visiting Mansimvula since he was ten, and we have spent many, many amazing holidays there at as a family. There are no fences separating the property from Kruger, so the animals in the area just roam through at will. There are also no fences around the main camp so we often have visits from inquisitive warthogs, mongoose and hyena. Bruce and I love sleeping up on the open deck, where we listen to the local leopards, hyenas, and sometimes even lion calling to each other across the property. There are very few places we have been to in South Africa that still feel so wild. In June/July we spent two weeks at Mansimvula with my parents and some family-friends. It is incredibly difficult to describe the magic of the African bush, everything just feels so alive. Here are some pictures.

Oh my gosh you guys… these are so amazing! I miss Africa <3 Love, love, love the sideways look from the baby elephant!
Hi Thanks I really enjoyed your beautiful pictures! Do you know the Weiner family who also have a place in Mansimvula? Marc Weiner, their son, lives at Mopane Grove (outside Hoedspruit, I believe) and publishes a website of comments about the wildlife in the area. He also leads wildlife safaris, and did some televised ones on WildEarth TV for awhile. That is how we got to know him. Thanks, LRevere
